The Hanky Panky

Ada Coleman

In 1903, Ada Coleman, better known as “Coley” to her regular guests, became the first-ever female Head Bartender at the legendary “American Bar at The Savoy Hotel” in London. Her most recognized drink, the Hanky Panky, became a renowned classic, and her role and accomplishments have inspired a great number of bartenders for generations since then. We are paying tribute to Ada with this riff on her classic Hanky Panky, using Rieger’s Midwestern Dry Gin and Caffè Amaro.

• 1 ½ oz Midwestern Dry Gin

• 1 ½ oz Cocchi di Torino vermouth

• ½ teaspoon Caffè Amaro

• ½ teaspoon Grand Marnier

• 5 drops saline solution*

• lemon twist

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass and stir until properly diluted and chilled; approximately 20-25 seconds. Strain into a cocktail coupe and garnish with a lemon twist.

*Saline Solution

• 50 g salt

Combine boiling water and in a heat proof container. Stir until salt has dissolved. Allow to cool and transfer to an eye dropper or dasher bottle.
